They’re talking...are we listening?

Foundation:

How is your relationship with your horse? I like to spend time with my horse and allow him or her to understand it’s more than just a ride. I’m sure that you’ll find it very interesting how your horse relaxes. They’ll  wonder, how did you know….?

Body Work

Your horse will let us know if he is happy with the saddle that you have selected. It’s really hard to imagine that they can convey to us how they feel about the saddle... It’s one of those you have to see for yourself to believe it. Trust me!

We’ll look at equipment that  horses have proven to me work. After many years it was my miniature donkey that showed me the way.

It’s the difference between night and day. I did it for years: worked so hard to try and ride my horse with confidence; lessons 2 and 3 times a week.  Never satisfied,  finally I just began to PLAY with my horse. It made all the difference in the world!  You might have to pretend that you’re an 11-year old  kid again.  An interesting concept!

Riding in sync with your horse can be very easy once you know what to look for.  There are myriad books out there with different opinions. I have found that the best teacher is your horse. So that is how I teach.  Riding your horse can be very interesting . . . if you’re listening.  Horses learn from comfort and discomfort, and that’s the same way they teach us.

Riding with awareness increases the comfort, performance and confidence for both you and your horse.

Awareness through movement provides information to the horse regarding the rib cage, the hind end , neck and  poll. You will learn how to help your horse communicate with you on these posture exercises. You’ll be amazed at how well you’ll work together. These exercises help improve posture, flexibility, breathing ,balance and self-carriage.

For example, the most common problem with horses might be: their head is up, their neck is tight….. bottom line, the horse is tense. By applying a softening motion which enables the horse to relax,  the result is a released poll, lowered head, rib cage is swinging, and the horse is balanced.
